Yes i think this would be a good symbol for Tasmania
Yes it would be a fantastic change it will increase the interest in the devil and may help the devil fight back.
Why not use a pulp mill or a big letter G for the symbol.
Tasmania – Where pollution evaporates ™
I like it.
we are watching the devil slowly and painfully fade into oblivion – why would we want that as a symbol for our state?
@ani — good point, well made. it brings up the question of do we need to represent the state with an animal at all? why is tassie always represented by a map of tasmania, a triangle, a devil or a tiger. think back to the old hobart devils basketball team – yet another extinct species, and then, years later we go ahead and name our football team ‘the devils’ — through a clear lack of creativity in my opinion, and also from the inability of tasmanians having any idea of how to present ourselves on a visual level.
so if no devil/tiger/map of tassie/triangle/whatever — what?
Ani – I guess the point people have made to us is that yes, we are sitting back and watching the Devil fade into oblivion just as we did with the Thylacine. Rather than letting history repeat, if our state identity is connected to the mystique of pristine wilderness, why not stand up and throw our total support behind one of the great living icons within it, when it needs it most.
I also see Adams point. Are we searching with a too narrow focus for ideas of how we could be represented? Perhaps we are.
Consider that if you take the tiger, the devil and the triangle out of a visual identity for Tasmania, you really have little to evolve from as these visuals are the only visuals used in any branding for tasmania for the past upteen years.
How about we get right back to basics and start back when Tasmania was first acknowledged as a state of Australia. We should begin by incorporating the convict cross/brand that is enblazened in our true tasmanian hearts…

Bang on mate, you just read our mind. New poll covering that idea just up.
What a terrible idea….lets replace an animal we have made extinct with one that we are going to make extinct. How about we hang a devil head above the entrance to parliament too?
I don’t get the point of this, the logo of Tasmania is pretty much the most awesome I’ve ever seen of a state. It actually makes sense compared to most other logos which are just random shapes.
I’m not from Tasmania, but from Europe, and when I was there in 2008 the logo was very appealing and of all states of Australia I’ve been to the only one that sticked to my memory.
