we can’t get the ’stylised map of tassie’ back. Federal Hotels has taken it over with their bloody ‘pure tasmania’ tourism campaign – which they must also have stolen from the kiwis… It doesn’t say federal hotels anywhere on the gear or promotional material, just pure tasmania and the map of tas. Because they wouldn’t like to associate their gratis monopoly of gambling in tasmania and speculation about politcal affiliations with their drive round the whole state and stay in nothing but a federal hotel gambit. they also stole the green that used to be associated with dept parks & wildlife. Go up to cradle mountain visitor centre – the one before the park, where you can catch the bus – you’ll not see a federal word anywhere – just ‘pure tasmania’.

Leave it as it is. The cost and effort required to change the logo won’t be outweighed by any benefit it brings.

I agree with Claire’s suggestion that a stylised map of Tasmania is a good thing. I would like, however, to revel in our modern environmental consciousness, by having a pair of chimney stacks rising out of the middle of the stylised map. Perhaps the smoke belching out could be an outline of the dead dog – a reminder that we have gone BACKWARDS in our empathy and awareness since the day the last Thylacine died…

A sylised map of Tasmania could be great, as long as it is vibrant and a clear representation of our state (take a look at QLD’s state logo….what on earth is that?). The use of the Tassie Devil, could run the same risk as the dead dog. What if we lose the devil? It will become proof of failure…on the other hand, if the solution to the facial cancer of the devils can be found, then what a logo of “overcoming disaster” We started as a convict state…look at what has been achieved! Perhaps a logo option is looking at some of the convict logos, then instead of being a state known for dead dogs, we can be a state of tortured criminals?
