Visual Research
Today we are sharing a collection of visual reference that we have been discussing in the studio.
Taking a step back from the direct and logical discussion of symbolism, the strongest overall concept that came through the findings document was the idea (sometimes linked to the Thylacine’s stripes), that Tasmania is ultimately an island of compact diversity and rich contrasts: i.e. Exposed/Secluded, Heritage/Progression, Diversity/Simplicity, Wilderness/Urbanism, Connection/Isolation, Subtlety/Strength, Untamed/Approachable.
In an attempt to develop these ideas into a visual language, we have been looking at some abstract representations that could inform ideas of colour/texture/composition/feeling. The idea for example that the state is essentially an island made up of a cluster of diverse communities and landscapes is one which we thought was interesting. We have also been thinking about unique ways to capture a sense of the Tasmanian landscape.
It is obviously early days, but any thoughts/ideas as always are most welcome.
